Ethics and Exponentials in the 21st Century

By Christina Gerakiteys on 25/01/2021 6:45:22 PM

Some time ago, I wrote an article titled The Rise of the Chief Ethics Officer. The topic, Ethics, has taken on a new urgency as we live through rapid technological change, a realisation that our governance systems are incredibly outdated, and as we examine global issues such as wellness, education and the future of cities.

Strangers to Uncertainty No More

By Christina Gerakiteys on 01/10/2020 9:44:42 AM

Uncertainty is a word that has been increasingly used to describe life during 2020. Traditionally, if we are uncertain, then we are unsure. We might doubt or view something with suspicion. We might mistrust or hold to skepticism.

The Time for Kindness and Morality is Always Now

By Christina Gerakiteys on 24/09/2020 2:13:00 PM

Kindness should always be our guiding force. I've been horrified this week to learn that there are some high-end managers and C-Suites out there making life as hard as they can for their people. Why? So they can look good. The managers that is, not the people! And in a time when there is an abundance of leadership courses. Anyone else find this ironic?

Relationships Rule

By Christina Gerakiteys on 17/09/2020 10:23:00 AM

At the heart of everything we all do, everyday, are the relationships we have with the people in our lives. From our immediate families to our favourite barista, we should always be mindful of the effect our thoughts and actions have on others. That is how relationships work.

It's a Matter of Trust

By Christina Gerakiteys on 10/09/2020 6:21:59 AM

As Billy Joel wrote, “…you're going to face a moment of truth, it’s hard when you're always afraid, you just recover when another belief is betrayed…it’s a matter of trust”.

Serenity Births Resilience

By Christina Gerakiteys on 03/09/2020 11:38:46 AM

The word of the week is resilience. Globally, nationally and personally, our collective resilience has never before so firmly held the keys for hope to an optimistic future. Right now, for many, it would be easier to give into despair and declare, “well at least we tried”.

Ripe For Disruption

By Christina Gerakiteys on 20/08/2020 7:59:00 AM

As you read this blog post I would have had a discussion on what's next in learning, the latest in a series of Salons offered by SingularityU Global (watch the replay here). The expert panel includes Jan Owen and Kyle Hermans, the three of us determined to shift education so we leave no child or adult behind. Because Lifelong Learning is here to stay and Lifelong Learning is so very closely related to the Future of Work.

There is so much happening in the world. It is as if the worst of us is rising to the top ready to be skimmed off, leaving the depth of us, the heart and soul of us, ready to walk into a new future.

Social Responsibility

By Christina Gerakiteys on 06/08/2020 9:09:00 AM

I spent tonight in the Emergency Department with my father. There was an Emergency Department full of people who were helping. And they all did it with a smile. And a mask. If these amazing frontline workers can wear a mask for a whole shift, sometimes even a double, we can wear a mask to keep each other (and them) safe.

Acting Locally, Leading Globally

By Christina Gerakiteys on 30/07/2020 11:51:00 AM

I read this week about a 'regional renaissance' approach to COVID-19 for Australia? The words stopped me. Why are we limiting ourselves to regional? Why aren't we embracing all of Australia in the renaissance? Why aren’t we acting locally and leading globally?

Towards UtopiaX

By Christina Gerakiteys on 20/07/2020 12:51:45 PM

As we emerge from lockdown it would be easy to meander our way back to where we were. It’s important that we don’t waste this opportunity to make meaningful change.

The Time For Positive

By Christina Gerakiteys on 09/07/2020 8:17:00 AM

COVID-19 is an accelerant. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, an accelerant is a substance that makes the progress or growth of something faster, especially something that helps a fire to burn. Zoom out and there are 'fires' all over the planet. Many of them need putting out so we can rise like a phoenix from the ashes. If we choose to.

Changing Mindset and Breaking Free

By Christina Gerakiteys on 02/07/2020 8:28:00 AM

I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years. A few years ago a lab-grown steak was on offer for dinner. At the time it was valued at $5K USD per kilo. I politely refused. I was a vegetarian.

What If Love IS All We Need?

By Christina Gerakiteys on 25/06/2020 9:15:00 AM

Once upon a time, many many years ago, in a land far away, I was scholar-shipped into a week-long leadership course. Given I was way too cool for a leadership course (seriously, I played in a band!), I had hatched an escape plan before I arrived. I would feign sickness the next day and drive off into the sunset to freedom and away from the restrictive and timetabled events that must surely have been programmed to follow.

Leadership - Who Is Looking Up To You?

By Christina Gerakiteys on 11/06/2020 8:30:00 AM

Leadership. It should be synonymous with respect, authenticity, trust, morality, ethical behaviour, honesty, courage and unity. Actually, during a leadership workshop, the cohort listed 57 traits in five minutes and still the list wasn't exhaustive.

Reconsidering What We Held Sacred

By Christina Gerakiteys on 28/05/2020 9:59:00 AM

We are being asked to consider and reconsider everything we know and everything we do. Everything that is familiar to us. Everything that we have woven into our lives and perhaps held sacred.
